Evolve – Foundation for International Legal Assistance, is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to improve access to justice and promote integrity, efficiency and fairness in the criminal justice system in Uganda. Evolve is run by a team of volunteer lawyers who have been working within the Ugandan criminal justice system since 2012.
Evolve’s ethos is to build capacity within the legal profession through collaboration with key actors in the local criminal justice system by providing assistance, advice, training and other forms of support to those charged with or convicted of a criminal offence; lawyers, judges and those working within the justice system. We are confident that our unique model, which is founded on a principle of collaboration will create a sustainable and stronger justice system in Uganda.
To date, we have assisted over 450 individuals charged with or convicted of a capital offence; have trained judges and advocates on international law and sentencing practice, have traced dozens of missing case files and have highlighted many access to justice and human rights issues through our work.
