Recruiting Now - In Country Project Manager

Deadline Extended

Position: In-country Project Manager (Uganda)

Duration: 6 Months

Remuneration: Grant approximately £7500 - to be confirmed

Start date: Mid-late March 2022

We are pleased to be able to offer the opportunity for a barrister interested in capital sentencing and criminal justice development to join Evolve’s work on a six month grant-supported placement in Kampala, Uganda.

This position would involve overseeing the progression of several of Evolve’s projects in-country, and managing Evolve’s Senior and Junior Project Coordinators on the ground. The placement provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience of international criminal justice development, NGO project management, and grant management. The successful candidate will be introduced to Evolve’s projects by the Evolve Management Team, who will be in Uganda in March 2022  and will then be overseen remotely from the UK.

Successful candidates will be legally qualified with an established interest in criminal law and/or capital punishment and human rights, and will be able to demonstrate extra-curricular experience of working within, for, and in furtherance of charitable entities. The role will involve maintaining relationships with senior members of the Ugandan criminal justice system and judiciary, a high degree of organisation and initiative, management skills, and an ability to work to a high standard autonomously.

The kinds of projects which will be overseen include research into sentencing trends; technical legal support in capital appeals; and advocacy and engagement for policy change in a variety of criminal legal areas.

The grant amount currently contemplated is £7500 subject to finalisation. This will be intended to cover flights (if from the UK) accommodation and subsistence. In-country work related travel and reasonable work-related expenses such as photocopying and printing will be provided/reimbursed separately.

We ask prospective candidates to email Evolve a copy of a CV to contact@evolvefila.org and a covering letter addressed to the Management Committee, explaining why they would be suited to the role. All written applications will be initially considered on 24 February 2022 followed by interviews soon afterwards. The deadline has been extended to accommodate the level of interest in the role.
